Cash App, a mobile payments service developed by Block Inc., has introduced a new contactless payments feature for its Cash App Business sellers in the U.S.

This launch enables more than a million sellers to accept credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallet payments directly via iPhone – without the need for additional hardware, according FF News.

The new feature is designed to support small businesses, mobile vendors and independent sellers by eliminating the need for traditional card readers.

With this update, Cash App is pushing further into the FinTech space by simplifying in-person payments for small-scale sellers, enhancing accessibility and reducing friction at the point-of-sale.

Cash App is known for providing peer-to-peer money transfers, banking tools, and business solutions through its mobile platform. It offers a range of services including payment processing, financial tracking and sales management, primarily for individual users and small businesses.

The latest product update allows eligible Cash App Business sellers to accept contactless payments using only their iPhone and the Cash App iOS application. By utilising Apple’s Tap to Pay technology, this offering facilitates secure and mobile-friendly transactions for sellers and buyers alike – even for customers who don’t have Cash App accounts.

Tap to Pay on iPhone is built into the Cash App ecosystem and uses Apple’s built-in NFC capabilities, eliminating the need for external card readers or additional apps. Sellers simply prompt customers to tap their contactless card or wallet near the iPhone to complete the transaction. The feature is available for iPhone XS or later models running the latest iOS version.

According to Cash App, Tap to Pay on iPhone was the most requested feature from its business customers. During beta testing, sellers using this tool experienced a 35% increase in inbound purchase volume compared to those who did not. This underscores the tool’s ability to drive revenue for micro and nano sellers.

Cash App also noted that this new feature aligns with its broader mission of economic empowerment. By integrating Square’s industry-leading payment tools directly into Cash App, the company is supporting the next generation of sellers and expanding access to digital commerce.

Block head of business Owen Jennings said, “Tap to Pay on iPhone opens up sellers to businesses outside the Cash App community, to the growing share of customers who use contactless debit or credit card, or a mobile wallet. It’s a powerful way to ensure micro and nano sellers never miss a sale. We’re meeting them where they are – distributing Square’s industry leading tools to a new generation of smaller, next-gen sellers, natively within Cash App.”
