No late payment fees on utilities for evacuated Summerland residents

The District of Summerland is waiving penalties for late utility payments amid wildfires.

In a Facebook post, the district shared that it understands the worry, uncertainty and stress that evacuees are under.

To help residents and businesses out during this rough time, it announced that no late payment penalties or interest will be applied to utility accounts during this designated emergency period.

“You do not need to worry about late fees or interest if you are unable to make your utility payment during this time,” the post reads. “Utility services and accounts will continue to be managed, but we understand that your focus right now may simply be on the safety and well-being of your family, employees, neighbours, and community.”

Any questions about account or payment options can be directed to utilities@summerland.ca. The post mentioned that staff have limited access to computers but will try their best to respond as soon as possible.

“Above all, please take care of yourselves and one another,” the district added. “We know this is an incredibly difficult and uncertain time, and we are grateful for your patience, understanding, and compassion as our community comes together to respond and recover.”
