Suffolk Federal Offers Three Opportunities With One Purpose: To Make a Difference for Those Touched By Cancer

Cancer is among the leading causes of death on a global basis.  According to the National Cancer Institute, it was predicted that in 2018 an estimated 1,735,350 new cancer cases would be diagnosed in the United Statesalone.  When a patient is diagnosed with this terrible disease, it impacts not only the patient but also his/her family and friends.  Once diagnosed, it is important to have access to proper state-of-the-art resources, information and research.  Organizations such as LI2DAY are vital in offering these types of quality of life assistance to those who have been diagnosed but they do need help to continue their mission.

Each year, Suffolk Federal and its members join together to support the LI2DAY Breast Cancer Walk to enable LI2DAY to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients.  LI2DAY is a local nonprofit which was organized to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer and other cancer research, to benefit cancer sufferers, survivors, and their families, and to support organizations that are participating in such efforts. Programs the organization has funded over the last 15 years include counseling services specifically designed for children and teens affected by their parent/guardian’s breast cancer, as well as Hospice programs that provide comfort and dignity to the patients and their families at the end-stage-of-life.  All funds raised remain here on Long Island.

“Cancer knows no boundaries, and anyone can be affected,” explained James Gallagher, Vice President of Credit Union Services LLC located at Suffolk Federal and LI2DAY Advisory Council Member.  “We are committed to helping LI2DAY to empower families and provide the critical care and resources that can improve the quality of life and which bring hope,” he added.

During the month of May, Suffolk Federal is offering 3 ways you can support and assist this vital organization:

·  Beanie Bear Donation: Stop in any branch between May 1-31 to participate in the Beanie Bear fundraiser.  For only a $10 donation, you can take home a special bear for someone you love while contributing to an important cause

·  Open a LI2Day Free Checking account: It is a simple way to join the fight against breast cancer.Suffolk Federal donates five cents for each of your signature-bases purchases annually in December, up to $350 per year as well as the net proceeds from the purchase of your checkbook.

·  Walk with Us on Saturday, June 8: The 13.1-mile walk is a grassroots community-based walk-a-thon that consists of teams of walkers from all over Long Island.  You can form a team, train with a friend or join one of the many LI2Day training walks. To find out more information and to register, go to

Working together with our members we are able to do wonderful things to support the work of organizations such as LI2DAY.  And through these efforts, if we can impact even one patient and his/her family we will have made a difference and fulfilled our mission to support the local communities we do business in,” explains Gallagher.
