CONCORD, NH (ABC22/FOX44) – Officials are warning about scam text massages claiming to be from New Hampshire Courts.
New Hampshire’s Department of Justice Consumer Protection and Antitrust Bureau has gotten reports from consumers about this scam, according to a recent release from AG John Formella. In this case, victims will receive text messages alleging they have missed a court date, owe a fine, with a hearing notice sometimes included.

Scammers are now also attaching QR codes in some cases as a way to get more information from a victim, and even payment. The release from AG John Formella confirms that the state’s judicial branch “does not send QR codes in text messages, does not solicit payments via text, and does not request payment through links or codes sent by text message.”
Consumers should be cautious of messages that threaten with penalties, lack specific information, use unfamiliar links and demand immediate payment. If you receive a scam message, delete it, and avoid sending payment or personal information.
