CONCORD, N.H. (WCAX) – Should states be able to regulate AI use within their borders? Attorneys general from our region say yes.
It’s the subject of a letter opposing proposed amendments that would replace state protections with a federal framework. The attorneys general from Vermont, New York and New Hampshire all signed the letter.
New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella says while AI has great potential, the tech increases the risk for scams and harmful practices online. “State attorneys general have led the way in protecting consumers from the harmful effects of unregulated AI. This proposed amendment would undermine those efforts, stripping away important consumer protections without offering any solution to fill the void. I stand with my colleagues in urging Congress to reject this dangerous provision,” he said
The AGs all say they are the best positioned to respond to the evolving dangers, and regulation should stay with states.
