EUREKA, Calif. — Coast Central Credit Union marked its 75th anniversary on Tuesday with a celebration at its Harrison Avenue branch, unveiling a refreshed logo, presenting a community donation and burying a time capsule to capture the milestone for future generations.
The event brought together staff members and community partners to honor the credit union’s history and showcase its vision for the future. Coast Central President and CEO Fred Moore said the anniversary represents more than numbers on paper. “It’s a historic effort of being here 75 years, and it’s essentially about people helping people,” Moore said.
As part of the celebration, Coast Central presented a $7,500 check to Cal Poly Humboldt to support workforce development. Moore said the gift reflects the credit union’s commitment to preparing the next generation. “For us to give back to that critical institution, it’s part of our workforce development efforts, so we need to have good employees to ensure we can continue to meet our members’ needs,” he said.
Board Vice Chair, Denise Jones, reflected on the credit union’s ability to weather decades of change. She said when asked what 75 years means to her, one word stood out: “sustainability.”
“You know, in a financial institution, boy, that’s pretty important,” Jones said. “75 years is a lot, and there’s a lot going on in communities, and politically, and economically and we’ve survived it very well.”
Jones added that while interest rates and financial products matter, it’s ultimately the employees who set Coast Central apart. “The employees make all the difference in the world. We can get the math right, we can get the good interest rates, but it’s really how people feel when they come in, and that’s what I think is exceptional here,” she said.
In addition to the logo unveiling and donation, Coast Central leaders buried a time capsule on-site, filled with items to reflect both the institution’s legacy and the spirit of the day. The capsule tends to preserve the story of Coast Central, which remains rooted in its members and community.
