Credit One Bank has agreed to pay $14 million to settle a class-action lawsuit over unauthorized robocalls made between 2014 and 2019. The case alleges violations of the TCPA, which protects consumers from unwanted automated calls. Here’s who’s eligible and how much they could receive from the payout.

Credit One Bank has agreed to pay $14 million to settle a class-action lawsuit over claims that it made unauthorized robocalls to consumers between 2014 and 2019. The lawsuit accuses the bank and its affiliates of violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) by using auto-dialing systems and prerecorded messages without consent, reported Kiplinger.
According to court documents, calls were made to people who had not given permission to be contacted, which is a direct violation of federal robocall laws, Kiplinger reported. The calls included both debt collection and marketing messages, and were placed to landlines and mobile phones.
Credit One chose to settle the case without admitting any wrongdoing. The $14 million fund will be used to compensate affected consumers. Those who file valid claims may receive up to $1,000, depending on how many people apply.
To be eligible for the payout, you must have received a robocall from Credit One or one of its affiliates between 2014 and 2019, without giving prior consent. You may also need to verify that you owned the phone number during that time. Providing phone records or other documentation can help, but isn’t required, as per Kiplinger.
A final court hearing has not yet been scheduled. Once the date is set, a settlement website is expected to go live with instructions on how to file a claim, opt out, or object. Email or mail notices will also be sent to people who may be eligible.
Payments will only be made after the court gives final approval and all of the claims are processed, which may take a few months.
