This October, Discovery Federal Credit Union had the honor of building a playset for a little girl fighting cancer. The playset acts as a welcome distraction from the hard days of receiving treatment. After building the playset, the team watched with full hearts as the playset’s surprise was unveiled.

Discovery FCU partnered with the Roc Solid Foundation, a nationwide nonprofit dedicated to building hope and playsets for families facing childhood cancer, for the build. The organization helped them get connected with the family and delivered the playset and instructions for the team to get to work.

Anewalt’s Landscape Contracting also generously volunteered their services, mulching the play area to create a soft, safe, and welcoming space for the child to enjoy.

“I cannot describe how moving it was to see this little girl, who has been through so much, smile in surprise. As we cleaned up our workspace, we had the honor of hearing her laugh and play. It was an amazing experience for all of us,” said Jennifer Pelker, VP of Member Experience at Discovery Federal Credit Union.

The Discovery FCU team hopes that on the days this little girl feels well enough, she can spend time outdoors, playing, laughing, and continuing to grow stronger.
