Equifax is doubling down on Costa Rica as a cornerstone of its global operations, announcing the addition of 300 new roles aimed at scaling advanced business functions and accelerating the company’s adoption of artificial intelligence.

Equifax Strategy Director of Global Business Services Karin Lachner said the new hires will span multiple specialties, from automation and software development to cybersecurity and financial analysis.

“It will be a combination of areas which include automation engineering and design leveraging RPA, ML, AI tools; software developers in diverse platforms including Salesforce, Oracle and Google Cloud; data analysts to drive business insights; cybersecurity analysts and cybersecurity engineers; financial analysts and planning; operations and customer support both on front and backend processes,” Lachner said.

Global Reach from Costa Rica
Equifax described its Costa Rican Global Business Services Center, which was announced and launched in 2022, as unique within the corporation.

“The Global Business Services Center plays a strategic role for Equifax globally as it is the only center of its kind for the corporation,” Lachner said.

Karin Lachner, Strategy Director of GBS at Equifax, said the company’s Costa Rican center plays a strategic role in global operations.

From San José, teams already support 12 different business functions across four languages — Spanish, English, French, and Portuguese — with global reach in finance, compliance and cybersecurity.

“The GBS in Costa Rica has matured to deploy global capabilities that can support operations beyond this location. Capabilities such as business excellence, automation via RPA/ML/AI and business analytics and insights (including data visualization),” Lachner said.

Costa Rica is also home to Equifax’s Center of Excellence for Automation, which has deployed 800 automation solutions across regions, including North America, Latin America, the United Kingdom and Australia.

Partnerships to Build a Talent Pipeline
The expansion is not just about corporate growth — it’s also tied to workforce development. Equifax has worked across eight different Costa Rican administrations and deepened ties in recent years.

The company is a founding member of the Costa Rican Cybersecurity Cluster and sits on the boards of key trade groups such as the Chamber of Technologies, the Shared Services Chamber, and the Association of Free Trade Zones.

To ensure a steady pipeline of tech talent, Equifax signed cooperation agreements with both the National Institute of Training and the Ministry of Science, Innovation, Technology and Telecommunications. Those partnerships have led to cybersecurity training programs that have already reached 5,500 Costa Ricans, and to a national framework for cloud computing education now being rolled out in technical high schools.

“Through the agreement with MICITT, Equifax has helped train over 330 public employees in technology teams of public institutions on cybersecurity best practices, including incident response, data security principles, data management, backups and recovery, amongst others,” Lachner said.

Outsourcing Implications
For U.S. businesses evaluating outsourcing destinations, the Equifax expansion underscores Costa Rica’s growing role as a service hub. Beyond traditional customer support, the country’s ecosystem now enables multinationals to tap into specialized capabilities like AI-driven automation, cybersecurity and advanced analytics.

Lachner framed Equifax’s move as a strategic play to “strengthen our capacity to support more complex business functions while leveraging scalability and enhancing our customers’ and consumers’ experience.”
