Florida ranks second in the nation for business bankruptcy filings, according to a study by The Kaplan Group. U.S. filings reached 24,737 in 2025, exceeding pre-pandemic levels and rising sharply from a 2022 low. Florida recorded 2,372 filings in 2025, up 30.5% from 2019 and 86.6% from 2022. Nationally, Chapter 11 filings also increased, indicating more companies are restructuring debt rather than shutting down. Texas led the nation in total filings, followed by Florida, California, Georgia and New Jersey.
