High school seniors could earn $1,000 scholarships and a certificate of deposit through Homeland Credit Union’s annual scholarship program.

The program is designed to recognize students’ past efforts and future goals while easing the financial strain of starting college, according to a community announcement.

Twenty students will be awarded $1,000 scholarships and an additional $1,000 18-month certificate of deposit. The scholarships are available to high school seniors who are members of Homeland Credit Union or dependents of current members in good standing. Applicants must graduate with a minimum 2.5 GPA to be eligible.

Homeland Credit Union directors, management, staff, and their dependents are not eligible for the scholarships.

Application requirements

Applicants must submit a letter of reference from a high school principal, administrator, teacher, counselor, or coach addressing the applicant’s character and leadership skills. They must also provide a transcript reflecting their cumulative grade point average throughout high school.

A 3-5 minute video submission is required, including detailed leadership and community involvement information, employment history, membership information, and a segment discussing how Homeland Credit Union can better serve its members under 25 years old.

Video submission instructions can be found at homelandcu.com/about-us/scholarships.

Applicants are also asked to provide a current photo, which will be used for promotional purposes if awarded a scholarship. The photo will not be shared with the selection committee or used in the grading process.

Completed applications and accompanying documents must be submitted online at homelandcu.com/about-us/scholarships. The application deadline is March 1.
