LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Chase Bank and LMPD are working to teach the community how to stop common scams in our area.
The two partnered up to hold a workshop at the Chase Bank on Jefferson Street in Louisville.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, Kentuckians lost more than $91 million last year to fraud.
Organizers of today’s workshop say some of the biggest ones are romance and social media scams, where scammers might pretend to know you like a family member and ask for money.
One thing that’s important to watch out for is how fraudsters are adapting to a growing digital age.
“Because we’re in fast paced society, a lot of times scam artists use urgency, ‘do this now,’ ‘right away,’ and people fall victim to it because we’re so used to moving very fast, which technology is a huge advent to why that has sped up our lives,” Chase Bank Louisville Community Manager Erin Ray said.
Another tip given was to trust your gut. If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.
