LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Two local high school students each received $5,000 grants on Wednesday to pursue careers in aviation.
The students from Mason and Grand Ledge were awarded the “Dreams Take Flight” scholarships from MSU Federal Credit Union during a ceremony at Lansing Capital Region International Airport.
“From the time I first started flying commercially, I loved it, everything about it was so exhilarating, I love the environment, love the atmosphere,” said Brayden Thorne, aviation student.
Ethan Charlot, also an aviation student, said the financial support will make a significant difference. “It felt amazing just because the financial situation of flight training can be really expensive, so getting that $5,000 boost is really, really helpful,” he said.
Both students are already enrolled in the Aviation Careers Institute, preparing them to pursue pilot licenses.
