WASHINGTON (7News) — This weekend, the country is celebrating the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday. PenFed Credit Union President & CEO James Schenck joined Brian on Good Morning Washington to discuss the significance of the anniversary and the role that the U.S. Army plays in our country. Schenck is also the CEO of the PenFed Foundation.
Schenck served in the U.S. Army as a Black Hawk pilot and shared more about his service to the country: “I was very honored to serve my nation in uniform,” he said. “Different folks joined the military for different reasons…I joined because I wanted to give back and make a difference. I wanted to be that helicopter pilot someday to bring our sons or daughters home. So, I went to West Point as my Marine father encouraged me to do and flew Black Hawks. And I really felt the military is a great opportunity. So, to highlight its 250th anniversary this year on June 14th is very exciting for me and for PenFed.”
In addition to celebrating this weekend at the U.S. Army 250th Birthday Parade downtown, Schenck also shared that the PenFed Foundation is placing a special emphasis on educating the public about the benefits of military service. Schenck encourages all young men and women to consider serving in the U.S. military and stressed the importance of them being exposed to the possibility of a military career.
