Onramp Funds hires Dr. John Coaster as Head of Credit and Analytics

Onramp Funds, the funding provider that supports the growth of e-commerce businesses, has appointed Dr. John Coaster as its Head of Credit and Analytics.

In this role, Dr. Coaster, who earned a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organisational Psychology at Central Michigan University, leads the company’s Credit Risk Modeling, Underwriting/Decisioning, Loan Servicing, Collections and Business Analytics.

A 20-year data science and analytics leader, Dr. Coaster is responsible for Onramp’s Credit Policy, ensuring the company’s processes align with its target risk tolerance. Dr. Coaster leads the underwriting/decisioning team, creating policies and procedures to ensure each credit decision and loan the company makes is within the company’s standards and priced appropriately for the amount of assessed risk.

Dr. Coaster also oversees Onramp’s machine-learning algorithm that assesses risk and is continually refined to ensure it remains effective through ever-changing market conditions.

Dr. Coaster leads a team of five people, including two underwriters and a senior data scientist who enhances Onramp’s risk model and leads business analytics. As a member of Onramp’s Executive Team, Dr. Coaster reports directly to Youngstrom.

Prior to Onramp, Dr. Coaster was Senior Managing Director, Data Science and Business Analytics for Homepoint Financial Corporation and Director, Financial Modeling; Head of Operations Reporting and Analytics for Fannie Mae.
