A technology offered by Philips & Cohen Associates (PCA) that gives the bereaved a simple route with which to notify utilities and similar organisations when a customer passes away has been named Innovation of the Year at the Credit Services Association (CSA) Awards 2023.

NotifyNOW, developed by The Estate Registry, is an online platform that helps utilities to support a better customer experience. It means representatives of the bereaved no longer have to contact a call centre or speak to anyone in person if they don’t wish to. People can simply go online and fill out the form at a time that is convenient to them, outside of office hours, 24/7, without requiring any personal interaction unless they actively seek it.

Nick Cherry, Chief Operating Officer at PCA, says he is delighted that their innovation has been recognised: “NotifyNOW is one of a series of products and services being developed to support a more compassionate and caring way of managing deceased accounts,” he says. “This is the first step in seeking to become the Benchmark in the deceased management community.”

The CSA Innovation Award is open to companies, teams or individuals who have demonstrated high levels of creativity, adaptability and inventiveness in the face of an ever-changing environment, delivering genuine innovation for their company with demonstrable outcomes. The CSA is the only National Association in the UK for organisations active in the debt collection and purchase industry.

The launch of the new platform coincides with the recent report by the UK Commission on Bereavement, which highlights the need for better solutions to support individuals through bereavement. With almost two out of three (61%) adult respondents citing difficulties with at least one practical or administrative task following a death.
