Hunger is a big issue in our community. In “Positively Gulf Coast,” the Harry Chapin Food Bank is getting a boost in meeting that need. Suncoast Credit Union Foundation recently donated a new delivery truck to the food bank.

It’s a full-length refrigerated trailer with a hydraulic lift. It’ll help get fresh, healthy food to people in need throughout Collier, Charlotte, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties.

“Trucks like this can distribute 20 or more pallets of food to a location,” said Richard LeBer, president and CEO of Harry Chapin Food Bank. “It’s a really important part of our ability to feed over 250,000 people monthly across five counties. We’re delighted to have the truck join the fleet and so grateful for the generosity of Suncoast Credit Union and its foundation.”

In our part of Florida, an estimated one in eight people — including one in six children — are food insecure. This truck will help keep food on the table for hundreds of families where we live. In 2024, our Harry Chapin Food Bank distributed 39.5 million pounds of food.
