Two Baton Rouge credit unions are set to merge next month when ALEC Federal Credit Union joins Campus Federal Credit Union.

ALEC members approved the merger Thursday, clearing the way for the two credit unions to join July 1 and operate under the Campus Federal name.

“This partnership strengthens our ability to provide the personal service our members expect, while offering broader access, enhanced convenience and expanded financial resources across the state,” said Jane Verret, president and CEO of Campus Federal.

ALEC, which is the Association of Louisiana Electric Cooperatives, was formed in 1968. It is open to employees and board members for 16 electric co-ops across the state, including DEMCO, SLEMCO and CLECO.

Just under 700 people are members of the credit union, which has $6.4 million in assets, according to the National Credit Union Administration.

Campus Federal was founded by LSU employees in 1934. The credit union has more than 43,000 members across the state, with branches and ATMs in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Shreveport. Along with being open to faculty, staff and students at LSU campuses around the state, membership is also available to people who live in Baton Rouge, Orleans Parish or metro Shreveport.

Campus Federal has nearly $895 million in assets, according to the National Credit Union Administration.

Plans are for ALEC to move its branch operations from its current location at 10725 Airline Highway, to Campus Federal’s Siegen offices at 6108 Siegen Lane.
