Vermont Attorney General Charity Clark has been selected to co-chair a new national committee on artificial intelligence organized through the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG), focusing on AI’s consumer protection, privacy, and public-safety implications.

What the new role is

  • Vermont AG Charity Clark will serve as one of the co-chairs of NAAG’s Artificial Intelligence/Internet Safety/Cyber Privacy and Security Committee, which serves as a resource to state attorneys general on AI, online safety, and data security issues.

  • The committee will examine how AI affects consumer protection, cyber privacy, and internet safety, and help coordinate multistate AG work, training, and policy positions related to these technologies.

Why it matters

  • As co-chair, Clark will help shape how attorneys general nationwide approach AI-related risks such as deceptive AI tools, misuse of personal data, and emerging harms in areas like deepfakes and automated decision-making.

  • The role dovetails with Vermont’s growing focus on AI governance, including recent legislative attention to limiting AI use in sensitive areas like mental health care and professional decision-making.
